I’m Back…

Once I get my life in order, I’ll have real posts. Until then, it’s good to be home.

And I’m off!

I’m currently sitting in Amsterdam, waiting on my connection to Entebbe.

I said I would have a couple of posts the other day, but it didn’t happen. Desole.

I was considering and even began setting up a separate blog for my time in Uganda, this summer, but I decided that was foolish, so anything I post will be right here for the time being. That being said, posts will be quite sporadic as internet will be spotty. I’ll be able to do posts through text, but Tumblr only allows one text pages worth per post.

So, look for tweets. You can follow me @dswinder or check the sidebar or both.

I won’t be retweeting or posting news stories that often, but I plan to do my best to keep a decent feed going.

Anyway, my internet time is running out, and I’m not paying another 12€.

My apologies…

…to the 1.2 people who read anything I have to say. I’ve taken no initiative to post anything in a couple few days and not much in the past couple of weeks.

I’m hoping to have a solid week of things to say in a couple of weeks, but I’ll be spending next week in the Keys and three weeks from now I leave for a stint in Uganda where internet won’t be as reliable and thus posts more sporadic.

I will try and make up for not posting by keeping a stellar Twitter feed going. To keep up with that, either pay attention to the right sidebar or follow me @dswinder.

So again, my apologies to my minor readership.

P.S. I may get to posting something today. We’ll see.

I’ve been toying with the idea of starting up a full-on sustainable development-centric blog, but I’m going to let this tumblr thing ride for the time being. We’ll see how it goes.

In the beginning…

So, I’m going to try to figure this whole tumblr thing out. It seems like twitter on steroids or an emaciated blogger. Hmm, who knows. I guess I’ll see how it goes.

About Me

I’m a student at the University of Tennessee, majoring in Global Studies: Politics and Economy and minoring in Political Science. My academic interests lie in NGO/aid management and accountability, sustainable international development, peace building strategies and analyzing how they are affected by policy.

My experience in the field has included a stint in the summer of 2008 working with MUMYO, a grassroots development NGO (based in Naggalama, Uganda), and a return trip to Uganda in December 2008 - January 2009 with the Jazz for Justice Project, an initiative created in 2006 to ‘help end the suffering in war-torn northern Uganda, and explore music and art activism as a tool of social healing and transformation.

I spent June and July of this year in Uganda continuing my work with MUMYO; at the same time, I researched methods of determining disposable income for the sustainability of a new program being implemented byEducate!, a Ugandan education empowerment NGO that aims to mentor and equip a new generation of socially responsible leaders inUganda.

My personal research this summer is focused on analyzing the effectiveness of NGO’s in relation to their size and management structure. I’m also working to develop a plan/model for a future incarnation of the Jazz for Justice Project, based in Gulu, Uganda.

In my spare time, I like to take pictures, read words, hike trails, learn djembe and cook things.

Feel free to email me about pretty much anything, connect on LinkedIn or follow me on Twitter.

Thanks for visiting,

Dustyn
